Alex Alcala, Former UPSL Player, Signs with Manchester City FC

January 18th, 2024

Less than a year after his last UPSL Premier Division appearance, former Ocelot Stockton TLJ and LA Galaxy Academy UPSL midfielder, Alex Alcala has signed a professional contract with English Premier League champions, Manchester City. The Mexican American dual-national has signed a five-year deal and is expected to take part with the Manchester City U-19 team in the club’s prestigious academy.

Alcala’s latest appearance in the UPSL Premier Division came last Spring season.

Hailing from Stockton, California, Alcala was born in 2005 in Northern California to Mexican parents. A current Mexican youth international, Alcala has spent time on trial at international clubs FC Barcelona (Spain) and Pachuca CF (Mexico).

After much speculation about his future, Alcala instead decided to stay stateside and sign a homegrown deal with LA Galaxy in the MLS. During his time with LA Galaxy, he would make appearances in MLS Next, as well as the UPSL Premier Division throughout 2022 and 2023.

After a year with the Galaxy, he has now signed with Manchester City.

The UPSL congratulates Alex Alcala as he embarks on this next chapter in his playing career and seeks to become only the second American-born player to debut for Manchester City.
