25 UPSL clubs one step from the Open Cup final round as third-round draw is set

October 12th, 2026

U.S. Soccer has released the draw and schedule for the Third Qualifying Round of the 2027 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and the UPSL heads into it with 25 clubs still standing, more than any other league in the country.

Thirty-two matches will be played October 31 and November 1. The winners advance to the Final Qualifying Round on November 21-22, where 16 places in next spring’s Tournament Proper are decided. The Open Cup, now in its 112th edition, is the only U.S. team sport competition in which amateur clubs can face professional teams. A record 155 clubs entered qualifying this year.

Four of the ties are all-UPSL, so the league is guaranteed at least four clubs in the final round.

The headline tie: Laguna United vs. San Diego Internacional

For the third year running, Laguna United and San Diego Internacional meet with the Open Cup in sight. Laguna won the previous two meetings, 6-2 in 2024 and 4-2 last November, both in the final round, on their way to the tournament proper. Sam Nicholson’s side is chasing a third straight Open Cup appearance. San Diego Internacional is looking to finally get past them. Kickoff is Saturday, October 31, at 6 p.m. PT at La Paz Sports Park in Laguna Niguel.

Renegades take on Open Cup royalty

NY Renegades FC, chasing a third consecutive Tournament Proper appearance, host three-time Open Cup champions NY Pancyprian Freedoms (1980, 1982, 1983) on Saturday night in Central Islip.

Open Cup returns to Fall River

Fall River FC opens the round on Saturday afternoon against KO Elites FC of the APSL at Britland Park. Fall River is home to the four-time champion Fall River Marksmen and the 1917 winners, the Fall River Rovers.

Other all-UPSL ties

Tennessee Tempo FC host Columbus Astray in Murfreesboro. Pinellas County United Pelicans SC welcome two-time Open Cup qualifiers FC America CFL Spurs to St. Leo, Fla. Virginia Dream FC and DC Hyper meet in Falls Church, Va.
