Midwest Central Premier Playoff Final – Round Lake Evolution take on Allegiant FC
This weekend, the Midwest Central Premier Division Playoff Final is set to be decided between the Midwest Central North playoff champion and Midwest Central South playoff champion. Hailing from right outside the North Chicago area, Round Lake Evolution FC will take on Allegiant FC Hammond from Northern Indiana. Both teams finished second and fourth in their respective conferences in the regular season and have since gone on winning streaks through the playoffs so far.
After suffering three defeats in the first half of the season, Round Lake Evolution have won the last 5 games, scoring more than four goals in four of those matches. In their last playoff match, Round Lake took on former Spring 2023 National Finalists, Chicago Nation FC and were able to get the 2-1 win to advance.
Head Coach Lorenzo Cortez spoke about the team’s progress the team has made in their second year in the UPSL.
“I’m incredibly proud of the progress our team has made in such a short time in the UPSL. This incredible run we’ve made, and this breakthrough season did not happen out of nowhere. Our club has been working very hard to recruit the best players in the area and we’re proud to serve as a second home for these players to compete and take this team to the next level.”
For Allegiant FC Hammond, after three draws and two losses to start the season, the UPSL newcomers have gone on a six-game winning streak to cement their place in the Midwest Central Playoff Final. In their last match, they defeated the highest-scoring team in the Midwest Central South, Goshen City FC.
Head Coach James Ooms explained his team’s momentum ahead of this weekend’s final.
“This season was not easy, the Midwest Central conferences are very difficult, the teams here play at a very high level. Our goal is to keep winning and battling. It sounds cliche but we want the boys to keep having fun and keep grinding out wins. It all embodies this team’s Midwest hard-working mindset and we’re loving every minute of it.”
