UPSL National Quarterfinal (Central Region) presented by Cricket Wireless Preview – Austin FC (Austin, Texas) vs. Rush ACM3 (El Paso, TX)

January 19th, 2023

This Sunday, the final team to advance to the UPSL National Finals will be determined, as the Cricket Wireless Texas Central Conference powerhouse Austin FC Academy take on Rush ACM3 from the West Texas – New Mexico conference.

In their first UPSL season, Austin FC Academy (8-1-1) finished as one of the top teams in the Texas region. With a record of only 1 loss in 10 matches and an undefeated streak at home this season, Austin FC have gone on a playoff run that has seen them score 11 goals in the past four games. Academy GM Tyson Wahl spoke about the value that competing in the UPSL has provided his players along with the excitement surrounding the game.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed competing in the UPSL this year. The league has provided our Academy with valuable games and we appreciate all the collaboration between the clubs. We are looking forward to hosting the UPSL Quarterfinal this Sunday against Rush ACM3”

Also making their UPSL debut this season, Rush ACM3 (4-2-2) finished third in the West Texas – New Mexico conference and have gone on an incredible playoff run that has seen them score nine in their last four games. The team has been very difficult to stop in the final third this season, thanks in part to performances from center forward Matthew Alvarado. The striker currently has 12 goals this season and has been turning heads with three goals in his past two playoff games. Despite facing a very tough MLS opponent this weekend, Coach Alex Medina and his staff are very confident in the style of play his club has spent years building.

“Our club was established many years ago in 1991, and some of these players have been playing together since they were 12 years old. Our coaching staff is made up of former RUSH ACM3 players as well, so this system we have developed has been implemented for years, and all players and coaching staff are on the same page”

Rush ACM3 Assistant Coach Homer Navarrete adds “Our mentality in this group is very tight-knit. We are very excited to compete against this talented MLS Academy team and have a lot of respect for our opponents, but we believe we’re ready. This post-season, we’ve turned into a different animal.”

The UPSL National Quarterfinal (Central Region) match will be broadcast live this Sunday at 4:00pm (EST) / 1:00pm (PST) on VYRE Network.
