UPSL Champions Cup 2022 Preview – UDA Soccer (Las Cruces, NM)

November 2nd, 2022

The UPSL Champions Cup is set to kick off tomorrow Thursday, November 3 in Querétaro, Mexico. Representing the West Texas / New Mexico premier conference, UDA Soccer (4-0-3) are one of the top semi-pro soccer clubs in the south west region.

After finishing this past Fall season with 22 goals in 7 games, UDA Soccer have placed first in their conference the past two years. Last year, the team was able to advance all the way to the final eight in the UPSL National playoffs. They are also still in the midst of competing for the historic US Open Cup after winning their opening games. The club views this busy period as key for the players’ development as they compete for multiple trophies.

“All these experiences are important for us; we want them to get the most out of the UPSL and these competitions.” Head Coach Tahlon Drake explains.

Expected to make the journey to the first-ever UPSL Champions Cup will be top talent Eric Gomez-Silva, former Real Sociedad youth player and current prospect for multiple pro teams in Europe. The number 10 Spanish-born player will look to string together attacking plays and dictate movement of the ball for the team. Forward Jose Puente, whose father coaches in the Mexican first division has 4 goals in 7 games and will be the focal point of attack for the team.

“With the Champions Cup, it’s a particularly unique opportunity for us. It’s a chance for us to further develop our brand of football and give our players a chance to compete at a high level in another country” says Coach Tahlon Drake.

UPSL Champions Cup matches will be broadcasted live with commentary in both English and Spanish through VYRE Network. You can find VYRE on Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, Android, iPhone, or your Smart TV by downloading the VYRE Network app for free or on their website at www.vyre.tv.
