UPSL Champions Cup 2022 Preview – Idaho Cutthroats (Boise, ID)

The UPSL Champions Cup is set to kick off tomorrow in Querétaro, Mexico marking the first time semi-pro sides from the US and Mexico will compete for an international trophy. Representing the Mountain West Premier division, Idaho Cutthroats (7-0-0) have a long history of dominating one of the toughest conferences in the west with 8 conference titles in 12 seasons. 

After scoring 26 goals in 8 games this Fall season, the Cutthroats are currently fighting for an incredible fourth appearance at the UPSL National Finals event. At this year’s Champions Cup, the team expects to continue their undefeated streak this season. 

Top-scorer on the team Anderson Herrera has 13 goals for the Cutthroats and will provide the team’s attacking outlet. With one of the highest goal differentials in region at 18, starting keeper Luis Hernandez will also look to continue his fine form as well. The team’s goalkeeper has incredibly only conceded 11 goals in his last two UPSL seasons. 

Head Coach Hector Palacios explains “We believe we are one of the top teams in the UPSL. The club is excited to achieve something big in Mexico and we have a very competitive team. Idaho is sort of a hidden gem for top players in the country. The club has grown every year and every season the team improves, and so we expect perform at a high level at the Champions Cup. This competition is a big chance for our club.”
