UDA Soccer (Las Cruces, NM) vs. Dodge City Toros (Dodge City, KS)
Tomorrow, we feature a match-up of two teams determined to earn a spot in the UPSL National Semifinals. UDA Soccer, who dominated the West Texas – New Mexico Conference, face off against Dodge City Toros, who came out on top of a highly-competitive Midwest South conference.
UDA Soccer (6-2-2) finished the season as West Texas – New Mexico Conference champions and remain undefeated in their last nine games. After dominating the regular season scoring 25 goals scored in 10 games, the team from Las Cruces, New Mexico now fight for a spot in the Semifinals. UDA Soccer head coach, Tahlon Drake spoke to us about what this match means for his team and their supporters.
“This championship means everything to us, not just the players but the community as well. These UPSL matches bring excitement to the entire soccer-loving community.”
“The fact that the UPSL provides that platform to bring a national title to the area. That has been the biggest difference maker for us. Playing for each other, playing for the fans, and not just for ourselves. We want to create something that lasts, create history and the UPSL helps us achieve that.”
Dodge City Toros (6-3-1) finished the Spring season top of the Midwest South Conference table, suffering only one defeat all season. Representing southwest Kansas the team has been on a scoring streak all spring, scoring 35 goals in 10 regulars season games. Despite having lost in the previous round to Murcielagos FC, Dodge City were given the opportunity to compete in the Round of 8 after Murcielagos was not able to fulfill the UPSL’s competition requirements.
“For a first-year team to come this far is tremendous, the boys have been working hard all season, and to get this chance to play in the elite eight is very special opportunity for us. Matches in the UPSL are usually decided by one or two goals. At this level you can’t just show up and play, you have to stay very organized.”
“To bring a trophy for this organization would be a big win for southwest Kansas.” Head Coach, Andrew Delatorre explained.
