Soda City FC Make History as First Back-To-Back UPSL National Champions
Soda City FC has been crowned the Fall 2024 UPSL National Champions, becoming the league’s first-ever back-to-back title winners. The team completed an undefeated regular season before sealing their second national championship with a 4-2 victory in the final.
After entering halftime tied 1-1, Soda City struck just 53 seconds into the second half, followed by goals in the 68th and 77th minutes to secure the win.
“This title means a lot,” said co-head coach Debola Ogunseye. “We lost key players in the offseason and the team needed time to rebuild. We put in a lot of hard work this winter, and really had a lot of belief that we could repeat as champions after our big win in the National Round of 32. To be the first team to win back-to-back means a lot, and it took an incredible amount of hard work.”
Looking ahead, co-head coach George Trifos shared the club’s future ambitions, including creating local youth soccer partnerships and launching a team in the UPSL Women League.
“Because of our success in the UPSL, pro teams have been reaching out to us for friendlies, as well as top NCAA Division 1 teams, so we are excited to continue showcasing our players. We’ve had a lot of success and exposure competing in the UPSL, and we’re eager to replicate that on the Women’s side. Connecting with our community and creating partnerships in the youth development area means a lot to us as well.”
“For now, we’re focused on our upcoming friendly against USL-club Charlotte Independence, which will be another great opportunity for a pro club to see our players up close. And of course, we have plans for UPSL national title three-peat!” Trifos adds.
