April 20th, 2023

With conferences across the country underway for the Spring season, the UPSL is proud to announce a major addition to the Cricket Wireless Texas Central Premier Conference. Based in San Antonio, Texas and competing in the USL Championship, San Antonio FC become the latest professional organization to enter a pro-academy team into the UPSL.

San Antonio FC are one of the USL’s top clubs and are well-known for having claimed a record five trophies in their 2022 season, including the USL regular season title and the 2022 USL Championship. According to San Antonio FC Pro Academy Director Juan Lamadrid, the UPSL provides an ideal pathway for his top young players to make the transition to the pros.

“We are beyond thrilled and thankful for the opportunity to be a part of and compete in the UPSL Premier Division. This platform provides a great challenge for our top Academy players to continue to make strides with us and continue their development process to the first-team competing in the USL.”

Having made the USL Championship playoffs three times in last four years, San Antonio FC has a big reputation for success in the area and a big part of the that is the local talent the club helps produce. UPSL Central Region Director and former MLS pro with Dallas Burn, Ed Puskarich spoke about the reputation San Antonio FC have in the Texas-area.

“It’s great to have an organization like San Antonio in the UPSL. Both on the field and off the field, they are known as a very high-level professional organization, and are one of the few pro teams in the area developing local talent in Texas. The team bring exceptionally high standards to the way they play the game and are playing in a very competitive Cricket Wireless Texas Central conference. We look forward to seeing them compete all this season.”

After beginning their season with a seven-goal win over Bell County FC away from home, San Antonio FC enter Week 2 in the Premier Division at third in the table with a game in hand. Currently tied on points with Corpus Christi Shakas, the two will face off this weekend as both teams look to secure a move up to second place. San Antonio FC and Corpus Christi Shakas face off this Saturday 4/22 at 2:00PM EST in Corpus Christi, Texas.
