UPSL Announces Northern California Expansion With San Jose Surf SC

San Jose, CA Based Club Joins Wild West Division For 2021 Fall Season

March 29, 2021 – Los Angeles, CA – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce San Jose Surf SC as its newest expansion club ahead of the 2021 Fall Season.

Based in San Jose, CA, San Jose Surf SC will begin UPSL play in the Western Conference Wild West Division.

Victoria Ortiz, Steve Lum and Jeff Jenkins are Co-Owners of San Jose Surf U23, which will serve as the highest competitive tier within the organization's structure. The team will compete exclusively in the UPSL. 

UPSL Wild West Division Manager Will Bumgardner said, "We are excited to welcome San Jose Surf Soccer Club to the UPSL. The Surf program is one of the the strongest in the United States. It's a big step to bring San Jose Surf in to the Wild West for the 2021 Fall Season and they are a welcome addition to the division. We look forward to the club taking the field this fall."

Luis Trejo is the Head Coach of San Jose Surf. A native of San Jose, Trejo is a former collegiate and professional goalkeeper. He holds a USSF 'A' Coaching License.
"UPSL is an incredible platform to bridge the gap between our club teams and first team football at a higher level," Trejo said. "Now our elite players can aspire to play at a higher level as they progress through their development pathway at San Jose Surf. UPSL will also give our players and families a team to support establishing unity and community within our club."

San Jose Surf Soccer Club now features 36 teams consisting of more than 450 players and 20 professional coaching staff members.

The club will announce its fixture calendar.

San Jose Surf SC is an American Soccer club currently based in San Jose, CA, and a new member of the United Premier Soccer League. San Jose SC will begin play in the UPSL's Western Conference San Jose Division.

Founded in 2007, San Jose Surf SC can participate in the qualifying rounds for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup through their affiliation and membership with the UPSL, the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
