Midwest Central Proves One of Most Competitive UPSL Conferences, Round Lake Evolution Claim Title After 4-Way Tie
The competition in Midwest Central Premier conference has proven once again to be one of the toughest in the UPSL as the Fall regular season title has come down to four of the region’s top teams, with Round Lake Evolution named regular season champions.
For the first time since the creation of league’s new tie-breaker rule, the winner of the Midwest Central conference was determined after an unprecedented four-way tie at the top of the table.
With a 6-2-2 record, Round Lake finished the Fall season level with KS Wisloka Chicago, Diverse City FC Pro Academy and Black Cat FC. For the first-time ever, the conference winner was determined after a head-to-head mini table was created involving games between all four teams tied on points at the top of the table. Based on results between just those four teams, rankings were then determined based on head-to-head points earned.
“Last season, we were able to finish second place in the table, win the conference playoff final and participate in the UPSL National playoff bracket for the first time. Despite losing some key players to the NCAA Fall college soccer season, we had even loftier goals this time,” explains Round Lake Evolution head coach Lorenzo Cortez.
“This regular season title symbolizes the past three years overcoming obstacles and challenges we faced. There was a lot of uncertainty surrounding the club at the beginning of the season, and this conference title validates the hard work we have put in and the journey we are on. Two trophies in the past two seasons is a huge achievement for us and we are beyond proud to represent our club and our community in the UPSL.”
With the regular season title already claimed, the conference playoff winner will still be determined to see who represents the Midwest Central in the UPSL National Playoffs. To stay up to date on everything taking place in the national playoffs, visit premier.upsl.com/playoffs.
