Fort Lauderdale United FC Kick Off in UPSL Women Following USL Super League Finals Run
Fort Lauderdale United FC, one of the most ambitious and rapidly rising clubs in the region, has begun its journey in the UPSL Women division this Spring 2025 season. Following an inspiring run to the USL Super League Finals by their women’s first team, Fort Lauderdale United FC is now shifting focus toward the development of their women’s reserve side in the UPSL. The club sees the UPSL as a crucial step in completing their player development pathway—offering meaningful, competitive minutes to players just below the first-team level.
The club’s UPSL Women side has already taken the pitch three times so far, recording one win, one draw, and one loss. But with a couple of games in hand, Fort Lauderdale United FC remains well-positioned to climb the table and contend for a top three finish and potentially fight for a place at the inaugural UPSL Women National Finals later this year.
“The UPSL gives us an excellent platform to bridge the gap to our first team and compete in some great game,” said head coach Jon Colino. “We’re excited to use the league to provide meaningful minutes for our players in a competitive, adult environment. Our goal is for the Reserve team to be a group that reflects the identity and playing principles of the first team, while giving younger players the opportunity to work their way up.”
“It’s definitely a big accomplishment,” Colino added when reflecting on the women’s first team reaching the USL Super League Final. “It reflects the work the club and coaching staff have been putting in behind the scenes for a long time—both on and off the field. The club is focused on building something sustainable, with the goal of long-term success. We want to solidify a foundation and ensure a clear development pathway. It also reinforces our commitment to creating opportunities for girls to play in a player-first environment—one that supports their growth and helps them reach the highest levels of soccer.”
As the club continues to grow its presence in both men’s and women’s soccer, Fort Lauderdale United FC’s development strategy—rooted in community, and providing a true player pathway—continues to set a powerful example for others to follow. Their addition to the UPSL Women division not only elevates the competition but further illustrates how clubs can build a sustainable future and player pathway in the women’s game.
