Former UPSL National Finals MVP Yan Diomande (AS Frenzi) Finishes First La Liga Season, Receives Ivory Coast U23 Call‑Up

Yan Diomande’s journey from the UPSL Premier Division to Spain’s La Liga has been nothing short of remarkable so far. A former standout forward/winger with AS Frenzi in the Florida Central Premier Division, the 18‑year‑old Ivorian won the UPSL National Finals and set the record as the youngest player to be named National Finals MVP at 16 years, 8 months. His pace, vision, and attacking quality caught the attention of CD Leganés in La Liga, who signed him and promoted him to the first‑team squad this past January.  

Since making his debut against Real Madrid on March 29, Diomande played in every game the rest of the season at the right wing and left wing positions. Diomande registered ten La Liga appearances this—three of those as a starter—including starts against top teams Barcelona and Villarreal. In 540 minutes of league action, Diomande registered two goals and an assist.  

Diomande’s form this season has earned him international recognition as well. On 27 May 2025, he received his first call‑up to the Ivory Coast U23 side for an upcoming friendly match—a reward for his standout performances and growing stature in Spain. 

This milestone cements his status as one of the brightest young talents to have emerged from the UPSL Premier Division and now cements his first steps on the international stage. 

Within the club, Diomande is known for his “speed, quality and vision in the final third, C.D. Leganes coaches were very impressed by Diomande since his initial trials with the club and are looking to integrate him more and more in the first team squad for next season.
