Deportivo Rose City Announce Mario Moreno from CF Pachuca Academy as Technical Director for 2023 Season

February 21st, 2023

With the start of the UPSL season right around the corner, anticipation is building across the country as Premier and Division 1 teams prepare to return to play. Ahead of the Spring season, Pacific Northwest top team and Fall 2022 UPSL National Playoff Quarterfinalist Deportivo Rose City (Portland, OR) have announced a change at the helm. Moving forward, Mario Moreno, Regional Academy Director from CF Pachuca Academy, will lead the club as Technical Director and UPSL Head Coach. Moreno joins the club having previously served as academy sports director with Club Santos Laguna and Atlas FC in Liga MX.

After finishing last season with an astonishing 37 goals in 8 regular season games, Deportivo Rose City were able to go on a postseason run last year that saw them defeat several UPSL top teams including Nor Cal top team Davis Legacy. After making it all the way to the UPSL National Playoff Quarterfinals, the team was knocked out of the competition by eventual UPSL National Champions Olympians FC. Coach Mario Moreno spoke about joining Rose City and the desire the club has to win titles.

“I am very excited; I feel like I have arrived at a club that seeks to do new things and overcome challenges with an environment that listens to new ideas. There are many expectations in bringing together this talented group of young men, as well as expectations from our fans and the city we represent. I want to achieve important things for this club.”

“I have arrived at a club that has won big games at this level before, and it is a huge responsibility to improve this team and get results”

With years of professional experience with Liga MX clubs and their academies, Moreno will spend the next few weeks getting acclimated to the US and his new team as he prepares for the upcoming season. His goal walking in the door for his new club—to get this group a UPSL National Championship.

“The US has become a great environment for developing top talent, the leagues in this country have been growing every year. It’s exciting for me to lead this team in the UPSL. For years, America has grown its National Team and soccer system, and I want to contribute to that with my coaching experience. We intend to build slowly and do this the right way, and together with my coaching philosophy, we are of course aiming for a National Championship.

Deportivo Rose City are set to kick off this Spring season with Moreno taking charge of his first year in the UPSL and Pacific Northwest Premier conference. Having made deep runs into the UPSL National Playoffs before, the team will look to go on another dazzling postseason run under the Head Coach Moreno this Spring.
